Exchange Club of Gilroy End of Year Recap - 2024
As my term as President of the Exchange Club of Gilroy draws to a close, our organization remains steadfast in our commitment to improving the lives of our local residents. Guided by our core values of family, community, and country, we as a club orchestrated a range of events and initiatives that promote unity, service, and goodwill.
Key Activities and Initiatives
Wine Down Wednesday Fundraiser Event – isn’t just about sipping wine and enjoying a delightful dinner (although we did plenty of that!). It’s about coming together as a community, celebrating life, and giving back. Here’s why this event matters: 1. Supporting Local Causes: Over $18,973 of funds were raised during Wine Down Wednesday that goes directly back into our community. This year, we’re channeling the proceeds toward Back to School Shopping for local students. Contributions will ensure that kids start the school year with the confidence they need.
Gilroy Foundation and Susan J Seledon Fund – On behalf of our organization, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Gilroy Foundation and the Susan J. Seledon Fund for your generous donation of $2,500. Your unwavering commitment to the Gilroy community is commendable, and we deeply appreciate your support.
Blue and Gold Luncheon Event – We paid tribute to local Public Safety, First Responders, and a Veteran from the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area. The esteemed guests include representatives from the Gilroy Police & Fire, Morgan Hill Police, CAL Fire, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and one local veteran.
The Book of Golden Deeds Award, an esteemed tradition within the National Exchange Club, honors volunteers who dedicate countless hours to improving their communities. Presenting this award to a fellow citizen is a heartwarming gesture that celebrates the recipient’s contributions and inspires the entire Exchange Club.
The Book of Golden Deeds Winners for 2024 were Evelia and Jaime Rosso
Sponsor a Child for Back-to-School – A powerful act that instills hope and provides stability for a child, granting them the chance to thrive. When we supplied new clothes, we can genuinely transform a child’s world.
Comfort Bear Program – The Comfort Bear program is a heartwarming initiative by the Gilroy Exchange Club. These special bears are designed to provide comfort and support to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma. When a child feels sad or upset, they can hold the bear to find comfort.
TGIF Gatherings – The Gilroy Exchange Club hosts regular TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday) gatherings. These events serve as a platform for members to come together, share ideas, and celebrate community spirit. Whether it’s a casual chat over coffee or a lively discussion about upcoming projects, TGIF gatherings create an electric atmosphere that strengthens bonds among members.
Wreaths Across America – Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve & Teach our children the value of freedom!! 800 Flags were placed on graves in Gilroy and Morgan Hill the day before which we donated. 15 wreaths were purchased by the club. 800 wreaths were laid at the cemeteries on the day of the ceremony.
Youth Scholarship – We donated funds to the City of Gilroy Recreation Department to provide scholarships for children who need help participating in the many programs offered over the summer and throughout the year.
Memorial Day Ceremony – Honoring our Veterans in the community.
Community Service – St. Joseph’s Family Center, Rebekah Children’s Service, Salvation Army donations.
Gilroy Veterans Memorial Hall – We attended their meeting a presented our donation towards their hall & kitchen remodel.
Senior Ice Cream Social – Our club met to help feed the seniors and contributed cookies for all who attended in place of ice cream this time. The cookies were packaged and labeled before the day.
Gilroy Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center – We bought fuzzy, warm socks for those seniors who live at the center. We package them in Christmas bags for men & women, delivered and visited with them.
Veterans Day Parade – Give A Kid A Flag to Wave – We entered our truck in the parade. We decorated it. We had many members passing out the flags to the kids. We had flags on hand but had to purchase decorations for the truck.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the community, our board members, fellow club members, and my family. Together, we’ve cultivated a spirit of service, camaraderie, and community. Our unwavering dedication has contributed to making Gilroy a better place for everyone. If you share our passion for giving back and connecting with like-minded individuals, I encourage you to consider joining our remarkable organization. Let’s welcome Elaine Bonino, our new club president, and support her and the Board of Directors as they continue to build momentum in this new year.
